Privacy Policy
Crampons.net is a static website. There are no accounts, no logins, no comment forms, no newsletter sign-up and no shopping cart. Nothing on the site asks you to type anything, which means the site itself has very little opportunity to collect information about you. This page explains what does happen, and who else is involved when you read a page or follow a link.

What the site collects directly
Nothing that identifies you personally. The pages are plain HTML and CSS served to your browser. We do not ask for your name, email address, postal address or payment details, and there is nowhere on the site to submit them.
Two categories of data exist regardless, because they are inherent to how the web works:
- Server logs. This site is hosted by Cloudflare, which records standard request data — IP address, timestamp, requested URL, referring page, browser user-agent. This is ordinary web-server behaviour and is used for delivering pages, diagnosing faults and blocking abuse. Cloudflare's own privacy terms govern these logs, and it may also set a security cookie to distinguish genuine readers from automated traffic.
- Analytics. The site currently runs no third-party analytics: no tracking script, no tag manager and no advertising pixel is loaded on any page. Cloudflare produces aggregate traffic statistics from the request logs described above, which report page counts, referrers and broad country-level location without building a profile of an individual reader. If a separate analytics tool is ever added, it will be named here.
Cookies
The site's own pages do not set cookies to track you across the web, and no cookie is required to read anything here. Cloudflare may set a security cookie to tell genuine readers from automated traffic; it is used to protect the site rather than to profile you. Other cookies may be set by third parties whose links appear on a page — most obviously Amazon, when you click through to it.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. Doing so does not affect your ability to read this site. It may affect whether an affiliate click is attributed, which costs us a commission and costs you nothing.
Affiliate links and the Amazon Associates program
Crampons.net participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. Product links on the site carry an affiliate tag. When you click one, Amazon can see that the visit came from this site, and Amazon may set its own cookies so that a later purchase is credited to us.
Two points worth being clear about:
- We receive commission reports from Amazon in aggregate — items ordered, quantities, fees. We do not receive your name, your address, your payment details or any way to identify who made a purchase.
- Once you are on Amazon's site, Amazon's privacy notice and cookie policy apply, not ours. The same is true of any other third-party site you reach from a link here.

Third-party services
The services that can process data in connection with this site are Cloudflare, which hosts it, and the Amazon Associates program. If the site later adds a service that changes this — an email newsletter, an advertising network, an embedded video player — this page will be updated to say so before or when it happens.
Data retention
Server logs and analytics data are retained according to the retention settings of the providers concerned. We do not maintain a separate database of readers, because there is nothing to put in one. If you email us, we keep the message for as long as it takes to answer it and, where it led to a correction, to keep a record of why a page changed.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, data protection law may give you the right to ask what personal data an organisation holds about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to object to certain processing. Because this site holds no reader database, in practice the only personal data we could hold about you is an email you sent us. You are welcome to ask us to delete it.
Requests concerning data held by Amazon or by Cloudflare need to go to those companies directly, since they are the parties holding it. Their published privacy notices explain how.
Children
This site is aimed at adults buying mountaineering and winter hiking equipment. It is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes and questions
If this policy changes, the updated version replaces this one at this URL. If anything here is unclear, or you want to know exactly what is running on the site today, ask — the address is on the contact page. Our editorial standards and how the site is funded are described on the about page.
FAQ
Does clicking an Amazon link tell you what I bought?
Not individually. Amazon reports affiliate activity to us in aggregate — which items were ordered and what fee was earned. There is no name, address, payment detail or other identifier attached, and no way for us to connect an order to a person.
Can I read the site with an ad blocker or tracker blocker?
Yes, and it will work normally. The pages are static and do not depend on scripts to render. Blocking may prevent an affiliate click from being attributed, which affects our income and not your reading experience or your price.
Do you sell or share reader data?
No. There is no reader data to sell. The site has no mailing list, no accounts and no user database.
