The Air Tech is Grivel's attempt to keep twelve steel points while shedding the mass that makes steel crampons stay home. It trims the frame and points to land around ~800 g per pair — roughly two-thirds of a technical crampon and close to what some steel-and-aluminum hybrids weigh, without giving up steel underfoot.
Buy it if you move fast on alpine snow and mixed ground and resent every gram, but refuse to trust aluminum points on hard ice. Skip it if you want one crampon to abuse for a decade, or if your terrain never justifies steel in the first place.

Where the weight goes, and what it costs
The Air Tech saves mass the honest way: less steel. The frame sections are slimmer, the points are shorter and finer than a G12's, and the whole crampon is built with a lighter cross-section rather than a different material. The cost is durability margin. A lighter frame flexes marginally more under a heavy pack, finer points wear through their useful length sooner, and there is simply less metal to file away over the crampon's life. None of this makes the Air Tech fragile — it is still steel, and it still bites hard ice properly — but it will not shrug off a decade of rental-fleet abuse the way a G12 does. You are trading service life for grams, deliberately.
In use on alpine ground
On névé and firm alpine snow the Air Tech feels quick. Less mass at the end of a swinging leg is genuinely noticeable across a long approach or a 1,500 m snow slope, and the shorter downward points make the crampon less clumsy on rocky ridge sections where you keep them on rather than stopping to strip.
On moderate ice it does what a 12-point should. The secondary points support the boot when you front-point a short steep step, and horizontal front points kick supportive steps in névé. What you notice against a heavier crampon is a slightly less planted feel on hard water ice: finer points penetrate easily but there is less steel behind them, so a marginal placement feels marginal. Mixed ground is where the trade shows most. The Air Tech's points survive rock contact but round off faster than Grivel's heavier forged points, so if your routes involve real scratching you will sharpen more often and retire the crampon sooner.
Bindings and fit
Grivel's three attachment systems all apply. New-Classic is strap-on (C1) and fits any stiff boot, with or without welts. New-Matic is semi-automatic (C2), pairing a plastic toe basket with a steel heel lever and requiring a heel welt. Cramp-O-Matic is fully automatic (C3), with a wire toe bail and heel lever, requiring both toe and heel welts.
Light-and-fast usually means a light boot, which in practice means B2 or a stiff B1. For most Air Tech buyers, New-Matic is the version that makes sense: fast with gloves, secure, and compatible with the mid-weight boots this crampon pairs with. Because the frame is lighter, take a little more care getting the length right — a crampon adjusted slightly long relies on strap tension instead of the boot's own geometry, and that is harder on a lighter frame. Set the fit at home, then confirm it before the first steep section rather than on it.
Antibott plates are included. Keep them fitted. Lighter crampons do not ball up any less than heavy ones, and a light-and-fast day is exactly the day you do not want to stop every 50 m to knock snow off your boots.

If this is your first and only crampon, buy the G12. It costs less, lasts longer, and the ~180 g penalty is irrelevant compared with the value of a crampon you will not think about for ten years.
